MOCK NOT.

Read 2 Samuel 16:5-13.

MEMORISE: Also Shimei said thus when he cursed “Come out” Come out You bloodthirsty man, you rogue? (2 Samuel 16:7)

EXPOSITION

It seems it is natural for man to do what he ought not to do and refuse to do what he ought to do! When things happen, you often see men paying attention to what does not concern them! Man naturally also is prone to make jest, mock and ridicule a stumbling, falling or drowning fellow. Solomon offered advice that we should not even rejoice at our enemies’fall (Prov. 24:17). How much more people who do you no wrong?

Shimei, a Benjamite, thought he was avenging for the deceased king Saul, who  ingloriously died in the battle! (1 Samuel 32:6). He embarked on a  suicidal and self-seeking course by assaulting David the Lord’s anointed while he was passing through the wilderness of his life! The nagging and abusive Shimei thought all was over for David! He never thought David would survive the drowning water of Absalom! his son! You must learn not to conclude that a man that is going through certain difficulty or hardship is finished (Gen. 21:7). It is never the end.

Children of God will never join mockers of people who are going through trying periods, whether on just or unjust reasons. You don’t take advantage of somebody’s distress and turbulent moment to assume an arbitrary  judge over such person. The table may turn around any time. You can have your own  tough time too, either justly or unjustly. The downfall of a man is surely never the end of such person. A righteous  man may fall seven times but he rises up on each occasion. You should help someone out of his troubles instead of hurting him the more. (Prov. 24:16). Strengthen the feeble knees.

PRAYER POINTS:

1. Lord, assist me to be an encourager and never a discouragers.

2. Please, pray for someone around you who is passing through a challenge.

3. Lord, even as we want to go and visit the hospitals/prisons, we pray that those in these institutions would be visited by You for encouragement and change of life.
