TOPIC: WHATSOEVER THINGS ARE JUST

Read Philippians 4:8-9

MEMORISE: Who is wise? Let him understand these things. Who is prudent? Let him know them. For the ways of the Lord are right; the righteous walk in them, But transgressors stumble in them (Hosea 14:9)

EXPOSITION

The term “righteous” can be used in place of ‘just’, since both come from the same Greek Word, dikaios. The virtue of being just is only achievable through the Spirit of God, because it is the Spirit who quickens, the flesh profits nothing (Jn. 6:63). Galatians 2:21 states, ‘I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain’.

No one can become just by his or her power or self-righteousness. Our human capacity cannot meet up with the righteousness that only God inputs in us through the righteousness of His only begotten Son. Neither can we be just through our human wisdom. The only means to attain justification and righteousness is by accepting the perfected redemptive work of our Lord Jesus Christ. Actually, this term has been used by God to describe the very being of Jesus in 1 Peter 3:18: ‘For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit’.

God is just and all His deeds are right, because He is perfect. It is through the work of salvation by the finished work of Christ that we become “just” in Christ Jesus (Rom. 4:24). The believers are made just by God, through Christ Jesus. And if truly we have been made right with God, we ought to live exactly ike Christ. We must jettison those things that constitute blemish and corruption to our newfound life in Christ. If you think on things that are just, your mind will not dwell on unjust things. Therefore, think on whatsoever that is just, henceforth.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Holy Spirit, let the righteousness of Jesus be in me, so that I may be right with You.

2. Lord, deliver me from the power of flesh, sin and the world inhibiting me from being Yours wholly.

3. Holy Spirit, visit our nation’s judiciary with Your Spirit of justice, so that both the bar and the bench would be more committed to justice and fairness.
