ARE YOU LOOKING FOR FAME?

Read: 1 Chronicles 14:8-17

1 Chronicles 14:8-17 When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to search for David. But David heard of it and went out against them.

Now the Philistines had come and made a raid in the Valley of Rephaim.

And David inquired of God, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will you give them into my hand?” And the Lord said to him, “Go up, and I will give them into your hand.”

And he went up to Baal-perazim, and David struck them down there. And David said, “God has broken through my enemies by my hand, like a bursting flood.” Therefore the name of that place is called Baal-perazim.

And they left their gods there, and David gave command, and they were burned.

And the Philistines yet again made a raid in the valley.

And when David again inquired of God, God said to him, “You shall not go up after them; go around and come against them opposite the balsam trees.

And when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, then go out to battle, for God has gone out before you to strike down the army of the Philistines.”

And David did as God commanded him, and they struck down the Philistine army from Gibeon to Gezer.

And the fame of David went out into all lands, and the Lord brought the fear of him upon all nations.

MEMORISE:

And the fame of David went out into all lands, and the Lord brought the fear of him upon all nations. 1 Chronicles 14:17

EXPOSITION

The desire to be famous had made so many people crazy today as they go extra mile to get fame. They do things that God would never approved of to get to stardom. Our teeming younger generations are deeply engulfed in this as they go from  one herbalist to the other and from prophets to prophets. What shall we say of the young ladies who offer their bodies to anything or anybody for promotion and to be enriched? All these are crooked means to be famous with irreparable consequences.

True fame, promotion, greatness, popularity are from God as we have seen in the life of David in our text today. The fame of this “man after God’s heart” went our into all lands, and the Lord brought the fear of him upon all nations (v.17) Isn’t that what everyone is looking for today; to be known everywhere? David did not consult any medium or ritualist to gain his popularity, rather he gained it through fighting God’s battle and close relationship with Him. David waited to be anointed by God as king over  Israel. He was patient for God; he would never rush into anything unlike us today. We have often forgotten that he who laught last, laughs best and anyone that first hits the show may be an onlooker towards the end of the show.

David also depended on God for direction as to when to act and when not to act. He never jumped God’s process and programme for him. Through this, he gernered enough strength to always defeat his enemies and because he always gained victory through God in all battles, everyone in all the lands heard about him and recognised the strength of God in his life.

You don’t have to continue to scramble for fame on your own or do things that do not glorify God to be promoted or hit stardom. Follow David’s example and allow God to do what He knows best to do in your life.

PRAYER POINTS

2. Help me Lord to always wait upon You for my uplifting, progress and promotion.

3. Deliver our young ones who are already caught in the web of ritual acts, fraudulent acts, prostitution and occultism, O Lord.
