MINISTERING TO THE LORD THROUGH SONGS

Read:  1 Chronicles 25:1-6

1 Chronicles 25:1-6 Moreover David and the captains of the host separated to the service of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, with psalteries, and with cymbals: and the number of the workmen according to their service was:

Of the sons of Asaph; Zaccur, and Joseph, and Nethaniah, and Asarelah, the sons of Asaph under the hands of Asaph, which prophesied according to the order of the king.

Of Jeduthun: the sons of Jeduthun; Gedaliah, and Zeri, and Jeshaiah, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six, under the hands of their father Jeduthun, who prophesied with a harp, to give thanks and to praise the Lord.

Of Heman: the sons of Heman: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, and Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, and Romamtiezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, and Mahazioth:

All these were the sons of Heman the king’s seer in the words of God, to lift up the horn. And God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.

All these were under the hands of their father for song in the house of the Lord, with cymbals, psalteries, and harps, for the service of the house of God, according to the king’s order to Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman.

MEMORISE:

Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. (Revelation 4:11)

EXPOSITION

There are diverse ways of ministering th the Lord, one of which is through the appointment of people who are vast and skilled in playing different musical instruments to minister to God and to praise His holy name.

King David, a man after God’s heart, caught this revelation and thus chose those who are able to carryout this special task unto our holy God. He set some people over the service of song in the house of the Lord (1 Chro.6:30,31), because he understood the importance of ministering to God through songs.

This ministry is a divine gift through, it is expected of every child of God to minister to Him in this area, but some are endowed with this special gift and thus do it very well. The power of song is characteristic of individuals, and it often flows in family lines, as is illustrated in the cases of Asaph, Jeduthun and Heman. Those with the gift ought to be consecrated to the divine service. When one ministers to God through songs, it brings down God’s presence, glory and also comforts and helps people.

Let all who have this gift lay it on the altar of God’s service in the Sanctuary. Use it both in the public and in private sphere worship to the Lord. The book of Revelations reveals that twenty four elders, four beasts and host of heaven to worship Him in the beauty of His holiness. Hallelujah!

Are you gifted by God in this area? Desire God’s glory, the blessings of His people. No arrogance and no commercialisation.

PRAYER POINTS:

1. Who is like unto Thee, O Lord, who is like unto Thee, O Lord, among the gods, who is like Thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders, hallelujah.

3. Pray for choristers in each assably that God will sanctify them and make the fit for the assignment committed into their hands as they lead the congregation before God in songs of praises.
