YOU ARE IN CHARGE

Read: Daniel 6:1-4

Daniel 6:1-4 It pleased [King] Darius [successor to Belshazzar] to set over the kingdom 120 satraps who should be [in charge] throughout all the kingdom,

And over them three presidents—of whom Daniel was one—that these satraps might give account to them and that the king should have no loss or damage.

Then this Daniel was distinguished above the presidents and the satraps because an excellent spirit was in him, and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.

Then the presidents and satraps sought to find occasion [to bring accusation] against Daniel concerning the kingdom, but they could find no occasion or fault, for he was faithful, nor was there any error or fault found in him.

MEMORISE:

And over them three presidents—of whom Daniel was one—that these satraps might give account to them and that the king should have no loss or damage. (Daniel 6:2)

EXPOSITION

There are lots of mishaps that have claimed incredible number lives and properties in nations around the world owing to environmental degradation, depletion of the ozone layer among others. When we experience flood, Tsunamis, hurricanes, drought and the likes, we often jump at the conclusion that they are natural disaster, even as we celebrate the World Environmental Day, today.

In any case, they may be naturally occurring phenomena, but they are largely caused artificially. Man has continually refused to do what God appoints him to do concerning other creatures (Gen.2:15). We burn the bush, block the water-ways, dump refuse indiscriminately, and erect buildings indiscriminately. All these lead to avoidable natural but artificially caused disasters.

It is everybody’s responsibility to ensure  his environment is well taken care of. What is your attitude and contribution to the development of your community? Some, out of selfish interest, dig holes on the roads in the name of looking for sharp sand! These holes sooner or later degenerate into pot holes which can cause accidents, damage vehicles, and do other terrible things. How socially irresponsible is it for a church to be at a street and such street continues to have deplorable roads and lacked social amenities when such church can afford to put these social amenities in place?

You must stand out as a believer by lending helpful hands to constitute authorities on how to protect the environment against avoidable disasters. You are in charge of your immediate environment. Be responsive and responsible. You can never tell, if your responsiveness and responsibilities as touching Environmental safety can go a lo g way to prevent loss of lives and properties. Daniel was not found lacking in his responsibility. God is undoubtedly in control of the Universe but every man/woman created in has definite responsibilities. Be a responsible human being today and always, God helping you.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Help believers, O Lord,  to be shining lights in their communities.

2. Lord help l believers to be sensible, responsive, responsible, and sensitive to do what You would not do for us, but with us and through us.

3. Pray that churches would be more socially responsible in their different locations everywhere.
