YOU CAN’T EAT YOUR CAKE AND HAVE IT
Read: Hebrews 6:4-7
Hebrews 6:4-7 For it is impossible [to restore and bring again to repentance] those who have been once for all enlightened, who have consciously tasted the heavenly gift and have become sharers of the Holy Spirit,
And have felt how good the Word of God is and the mighty powers of the age and world to come,
If they then deviate from the faith and turn away from their allegiance—[it is impossible] to bring them back to repentance, for (because, while, as long as) they nail upon the cross the Son of God afresh [as far as they are concerned] and are holding [Him] up to contempt and shame and public disgrace.
For the soil which has drunk the rain that repeatedly falls upon it and produces vegetation useful to those for whose benefit it is cultivated partakes of a blessing from God.
MEMORISE:
But Jesus said to him,”No one,having put his hand to the plow, and looking back,is fit for the kingdom of God” (Luke 9:62).
EXPOSITION
And I will give unto them eternal life;and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand…(jh.10:28).This particular portion has been misconstrued by people, who strongly adhere to the gospel of eternal security. They believe that when one is saved, He is saved eternally,even if he continues to wallow in sin after conversion.
Our heavenly Father indeed guarantees us eternal life through the shedding of the blood of His son, Jesus Christ, who died as the only perfect sacrifice for sins. Yet, He has not assured us of eternal life in impenitent state. How would a Christian hols unto such a deadly doctrine of once saved,they are saved forever, when they are supposed to work out their salvation with fear and trembling?
Probably, this is what Judas, one of the disciples,believed in that caused him his position (bishopric) .No genuinely born again child of God would continue in sin (1jn.3:9). No more remedy for wilful sin (Heb.10:26).
Our text today, is of great opinion that it is possible to lose one’s faith, if care is not taken . God forbid,when that happens the scripture says,it is difficult, if not impossible to restore them to faith. It must therefore be noted that John 10:28 quoted above does not suggest that Christmas are eternally secure. It rather talks about God’s provision to save His people eternally,provided they continue to be His people. It is one thing to choose somebody as your friend too. We must continue to be God’s people to enjoy His eternal life.sin will always destroy our good fellowship and relationship with God. The Bible wants us to resist the devil but run for sin, rather than claiming eternal security.
PRAYER POINTS:
1.Lord, I have known you;don’t let me go back into the world like the dog that returns to its vomit.
2.Lord,deliver and restore those believers who have already backslidden.
3.O Lord,deliver the church in the land from vain doctrines and falsehood.
