TOPIC: I WILL BLESS YOU

Read Haggai 2:15-19

MEMORISE: I will make you a great nation: I will bless you. And make your name great; and you shall be a blessing (Genesis 12:2)

EXPOSITION

Nearly everyone seeks means to be blessed today. Of course, no one wants to suffer unnecessarily, because, poverty is not good. ‘The destruction of the poor is their poverty’ (Prov. 10:15) a very good reason people abhor poverty in all its appearances. However, this craze to be free from lack has gotten so many people into troubles. Some have turned ritualists, destructively wining and dining with the devil. Some became fraudulent (embezzlement, ‘419’, ‘Yahoo-Yahoo’, etc.). Some are becoming expert by the day in kidnapping, just because they are not ready to wait for the blessing of God, which makes rich without sorrow (Prov. 10:22).

How would the All-sufficient God promise to shower you with His blessing, and you can’t wait for/on Him, to claim the blessing? Why do people prefer to approach the devil for riches that do not last, but bring sorrow? This is nothing other than foolishness and impatience!

The people of Haggai’s days received the promise of God for blessing: ‘I will bless you’. That has not changed, even today. God’s promise for blessing is spread on the pages of the Scripture for his people, especially those who trust in Him and who are willing to do his injunctions to the letter. The recipients of Haggai’s prophecy suffered for their disobedience and lack of willingness to build God’s temple, and the Lord wasted all their efforts. But when eventually they repented and returned to do God’s bidding, God moved in their favour and decided to blessed them, even when the situation was not favourable. Don’t forget, God is the God of all whether. He does not need to wait for the favourable condition before He works.
