BREAK THE HORN, O LORD!
Read: Daniel 7:1-12
Daniel 7:1-12 In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel had a dream and visions of his head upon his bed: then he wrote the dream, and told the sum of the matters.
Daniel spake and said, I saw in my vision by night, and, behold, the four winds of the heaven strove upon the great sea.
And four great beasts came up from the sea, diverse one from another.
The first was like a lion, and had eagle’s wings: I beheld till the wings thereof were plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth, and made stand upon the feet as a man, and a man’s heart was given to it.
And behold another beast, a second, like to a bear, and it raised up itself on one side, and it had three ribs in the mouth of it between the teeth of it: and they said thus unto it, Arise, devour much flesh.
After this I beheld, and lo another, like a leopard, which had upon the back of it four wings of a fowl; the beast had also four heads; and dominion was given to it.
After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns.
I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.
I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire.
A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened.
I beheld then because of the voice of the great words which the horn spake: I beheld even till the beast was slain, and his body destroyed, and given to the burning flame.
As concerning the rest of the beasts, they had their dominion taken away: yet their lives were prolonged for a season and time.
MEMORISE: I was watching; and the same horn was making war against the saints, and prevailing against them (Daniel 7:21)
EXPOSITION
The mystery of the end-time is shrouded in personalities, places and events. It is found in the supernatural and the natural, plus the infernal, combined. It is therefore only the spiritual man/woman that can crack the numerous warning signs of the times, and this we find in Prophet Daniel, in today’s devotional text, precisely in verses 8, 16, and 19-21.
Last days sufferings and tribulations of the saints and of the whole mankind has been assigned to a particular beastly “power,” to execute. This is by means of blasphemy, violence, unruliness, war, as well as other annoying and persistent situations (that is, wearing out of the saints, according to verse 21). This is being aided by an eye like that of a man that refers to the prying eyes of the occult world upon a horn. Little wonder then of the spurious uprising of different deadly, murderous groups of anti-God, anti-Christ, anti-Christian, and anti-human agents, worldwide. They are being planted by the devil to accomplish his nefarious plan for the world; he doesn’t want to go to hell alone. May we not be part of his entourage to, and in hell, in Jesus’ name. ‘Amen’ alone won’t solve it. Only those who accept Christ’s lordship and stay with, and in, till the end would be enabled to escape the doom reserved for the devil, and by extension, those who choose to follow him to the end. Of course, no wise ‘fly’, so to say, follows the corpse to the grave!
The appearance of the Ancient of Days in His fullness, as He sits and executes judgements, only is expected to end the plague of woes (vv. 9ff). The second coming and coronation of the glorified Son of Man, JESUS, is to give the saints power to overcome and possess the kingdom, forever and ever (vv. 10,22ff; cf. Rom. 8:18,26ff; Rev. 19:11ff; 20:1-3, 7-10ff). Our sincere prayer, now, should be, ‘Break this horn, O Lord, in the name of Jesus, that Your purpose alone may stand eternally.’ Amen.
PRAYER POINTS:
1. Every horn and power of affliction operating against my life, be broken, now, in the name of Jesus.
2. Every horn and power warring against the Church militant worldwide, be crushed now, by the power in the name of Jesus.
3. Every horn and power on assignment to afflict humankind in my generation, be wasted, in the name of Jesus.
