TOPIC: COME OUT OF THE WORLD

READ: GENESIS 19: 10-17

19:10 But the men inside reached out and pulled Lot back into the house and shut the door.

19:11 Then they struck the men who were at the door of the house, young and old, with blindness so that they could not find the door.

19:12 The two men said to Lot, “Do you have anyone else here—sons-in-laws, sons or daughters, or anyone else in the city who belongs to you? Get them out of here,

19:13 Because we are going to destroy this place. The outcry to the Lord against its people is so great that he has sent us to destroy it.”

19:14 So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-laws, who were pledged to marry his daughters. He said, “Hurry and get out of this place, because the Lord is about to destroy the city!” But his sons-in-laws thought he was joking.

19:15 With the coming of dawn, the angels urged Lot, saying, “Hurry! Take your wife and your two daughters who are here, or you will be swept away when the city is punished”

19:16 When he hesitated, the men grasped his hand and the hands of his wife and of his two daughters and led them safely out of the city, for the Lord was merciful to them.

19:17 As soon as they had brought them out, one of them said, “Flee for your lives! Don’t look back, and don’t stop anywhere in the plain! Flee to the mountains or you will be swept away!”

MEMORISE: NIV:As soon as they had brought them out, one of them said, “Flee for your lives! Don’t look back, and don’t stop anywhere in the plain! Flee to the mountains or you will be swept away!”

(Genesis 19:17).

EXPOSITION

Commending His disciples to His Father, our Lord Jesus Christ says, They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world (Jn.17:14). Children of God, though live in the world, don’t belong to the world, and so must come out of it now and ultimately, as we go to ‘the Father’s.

Sodom, where Lot and his family lived and had their settlement, is a picture of this corrupt world. Lot was not considered part of them, for he detested the abomination of the men of that land, for which their land would be destroyed by fire. As a stranger (cf. Phil. 3:20, 1 Pet. 2:11), he had to move out with his family before the said destruction took place. But in spite of his plea, his two sons-in-laws refused to leave and were consumed in the inferno that wrecked the great city.

This world of today will come to an end very soon because of her iniquities, immoralities and vanities which are great before God, and most would hear the Word of life but neglect it. Some also, like Lot’s wife, would hear but the cares of life would draw them back from escaping the destruction coming upon the children of disobedience (Eph.2:2,3). As the world nears its end, it is a pity that some who were once saved will backside and apostaties.

The world offers notting good, though many appear glittery. Don’t settle for the perishable and corruption of this world. God warns us to come out of them and be separated as we seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness (2 Cor. 6:14-17). All these things that we need shall be added to us (Matt. 6:33), by Him who knows our needs more than we can ever discern them. Run out of, and be saved from this perverse generation!

PRAYER POINTS

1. Lord, help not to perish with this world of iniquity.

2. Holy Spirit, make it possible for me to run away from everything You hate, without looking back to, and at them.

3. Pray for Christians who have the calling to go into politics and those who are already there all over the world to be able to stand for Christ’s holy standard amidst the godless characteristics of politics, today.
