KEEP YOUR DISTANCE
READ 2 TIMOTHY 2:16-17
16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
17 And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;
MEMORIZE: But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. (2 Timothy 2:16)
EXPOSITION
Internationally, today commemorates International Day for Biological Diversity. Indeed, the world is diversifying, as social distancing has become the new norm in our world that is ravaged by the COVID-19 pandemic. Social-distancing is about safe-distancing. It is to prevent you from catching or spending the virus. In many public places, lines and boxes are drawn to enforce social-distancing. Its objective is to avoid physical contact with anyone who could as well be an undetected asymptomatic spreader in the society. This strict measure aims to flatten the epidemic curve of the deadly virus. For this to work, everyone needs to do their part to keep their distance, until the virus can no longer find any host to propagate.
Reflecting on this widespread social-distancing, one is reminded of what the Bible says about self-distancing. The Scripture urges us to stay away from the infectious and contaminating influence of the world (Prov.26v20-22, 2 Cor.6v14ff, Eph.5v11, 2 Tim 2v16-17). Keep your distance from the company of the godless. They can infect you with their poisonous ways. The tendency is there to eventually join them in their wicked ways. The sheep that frolics with the dog ends up eating faeces. Walking with the ungodliness can never stimulate your spiritual growth (1 Cor.15v33, Prov.22v24-25). Keep your distance!
No doubt, God doesn’t expect us to live in a vacuum. Yet, He expect us to be wise enough to limit our exposure to bad, negative, and infectious influence that can draw us away from God. The truth is, we become like who we become whom we spend the most time with. The iron of those we pally with sharpens us in ways beyond understanding (cf.Prov.27v17). Be aware of the company you keep. Where necessary, i.e. when godlessness is involved, *Keep your distance.* Your relationship with God should moderate all other relationships.
PRAYER POINTS
1. Make a resolution to come out from among the infectious and contaminating influence, and corrupt ways of the world.
2. Pray the blood of Jesus Christ to cleanse your body, soul, and spirit of every filth.
3. Pray for brethren who have fallen in the wrong courtship and businesses relationships, that God should help them out before it is too late.
