BE FORGIVEN
Read: Mark 2:1-12
[1]And again he entered into Capernaum after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house.
[2]And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them.
[3]And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four.
[4]And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay.
[5]When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.
[6]But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,
[7]Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?
[8]And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts?
[9]Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?
[10]But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,)
[11]I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.
[12]And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.
MEMORISE: And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses (Colossians 2:13)
EXPOSITION
The subject of forgiveness of wrong doings and financial debts is being widely discussed today in many circles, and among nations. Interestingly, the Gospel preachers and teachers are not left behind. Congregants hear it often, although, few people understand what true forgiveness is, from the biblical standpoint. When the man who was sick of paralysis was pronounced forgiven of his sins rather than saying that he was healed of his sickness, the audience (witnesses) queried within their hearts why Jesus would say that. But Jesus loudly answered, that you may know that the Son of Man (God in human form) has power on earth to forgive sins (Mk. 2:10).
From the legal standpoint, all wrongs adjudged guilty have earthly consequences, whether of fines, jail term, confiscations of properties, or any other form of punishment, commencing from the time as may be pronounced by a judge over any civil or criminal case in a lawsuit. But remarkably, from God’s standpoint, all wrongs (sins, iniquities, unrighteousness, lawlessness, or whatever name given) that are of eternal consequences, when confessed and forsaken through the appropriation of the finished work of Christ, are forever forgiven. Wow! that is incredibly laudable! But as true as this is, many people on earth have not gone to Calvary to obtain that eternal verdict, “You are forgiven.” Have you? It is either they see it as fake, or too good to be real.
Obtain God’s forgiveness now and be saved. Much more than the healings, prosperity and deliverance that were obtained by the paralytic through his friends, you need the assurance of salvation and eternity with God before physical death strikes.
PRAYER POINTS
1. I receive the salvation of my soul today, and total deliverance from the dominion of sin, in Jesus’ name.
2. O Lord, make me steadfast through the assurance of my salvation.
3. Forgive our nation, and deliver her from the grip of Satan, O Lord.
