THE LORD’S PRAYER

Date: Thursday, September 29, 2022

Bible Text: Matthew 6:9-13

Memory Verse: ‘This, then, is how you should pray: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name’” Matthew 6:9, NIV

John Piper said, “A failure in our prayer life is generally a failure to know Jesus.” Although the statement stings, however, it reveals the truth that we see God and experience Him better in prayer.

Jesus teaches that the right way to pray is rooted in understanding our positional relationship to God as our heavenly Father. We are to approach God as our Father in worship and make petitions for His rule and will, to be established here on earth, as it is in heaven.

All our needs are kingdom concerns, and therefore we should ask God to provide our daily needs. Also, we should be willing to forgive others and restore right relationships, which qualifies us to obtain forgiveness from God. Lastly, we are to pray for protection from temptation and deliverance from the evil one.

To develop a more powerful and effective prayer life, we must approach God with the consciousness that He is our heavenly Father who delights to hear our petitions. Let the wonder of this truth settle in on you that you have an incredible privilege in Christ to access God as His beloved child. Then choose the path of habitual prayer.

Insight: Through prayer, we nurture our relationship with God, our heavenly Father.

Prayer: Father, let Your kingdom come and let Your will be done in my life.
