TOPIC: THE PERIL OF GRACE

MEMORISE : And of all my sons (for the LORD has given me many sons) He has chosen my son Solomon to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel (1 Chronicles 28:5).

READ: 1 Chronicles 28:5-7

[5]. And of all my sons (for the Lord has given me many sons) He has chosen my son Solomon to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the Lord over Israel.

[6]. Now He said to me, ‘It is your son Solomon who shall build My house and My courts; for I have chosen him to be My son, and I will be his Father.

[7]. Moreover I will establish his kingdom forever, if he is steadfast to observe My commandments and My judgments, as it is this day.’

EXPOSITION

When your life is seasoned with grace, you will get something good that you do not earn. This can help you do better than others in your family, at work, or in your religious work. Even if they are people of your age or in your group, grace can make you different. Grace is special and can make your life go faster. But, if you are not careful, you might start to think you are better than others. This is the problem with grace. Solomon was a king who got a lot of grace from God. He wasn’t really David’s legitimate son, or the oldest, but God picked him to be king after David — grace in action. When grace is working, it can break the rules. But your personality will decide if you can keep the good thing that grace gave you, even if you didn’t earn it. Here is what God says about Solomon: Moreover I will establish his kingdom forever, if he is steadfast to observe My commandments and My judgments, as it is this day (1 Chro. 28:7). But sadly, Solomon abused God’s grace (Deut. 17:14-20; 1 Kgs. 11:9-12), and he lost the effectiveness of the grace in his life. Always remember that grace becomes a disgrace when divine backing is lost. Don’t let grace blindfold you. Know that your strength isn’t enough to attain greatness. Grace provides supernatural ability and strength to do what ordinary flesh cannot do (cf. 1 Cor. 15:10). Don’t abuse God’s grace in your life. Take care of your character and carefully maintain the grace you are endowed with.

1. Father, make me humble despite Your great grace upon my life.

2. Lord, help me to do away with the sins that can stop Your grace in my life.

3. Pray that God gives Christian music artists the spiritual capacity to avoid pride.

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY
CAC GHB: 261

1. Grace! ’tis a charming sound,
Harmonious to the ear,
Heaven with the echo shall resound,
And all the earth shall hear,

Saved by grace alone!
This is all my plea:
Jesus died for all mankind
And Jesus died for me.

2. Twas grace that wrote my name
In Thy eternal book;
Twas grace that gave me to the Lamb,
Who all my sorrows took.

3. Grace taught my wand’ring feet
To tread the heav’nly road;
And new supplies-each hour I meet,
While pressing on to God.

4. Grace taught my soul to pray,
And made mine eyes o’erflow;
Twas grace which kept me to this day,
And will not let me go

5. Oh, let Thy grace inspire
My soul with strength Divine!
May all my pow’rs to Thee aspire,
And all my days be Thine.
Amen
