But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive (Genesis 50:20).

Genesis 50:15-21

[15]. When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, “Perhaps Joseph will hate us, and may actually repay us for all the evil which we did to him.”

[16]. So they sent messengers to Joseph, saying, “Before your father died he commanded, saying,

[17]. ‘Thus you shall say to Joseph: “I beg you, please forgive the trespass of your brothers and their sin; for they did evil to you.”’ Now, please, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of your father.” And Joseph wept when they spoke to him.

[18]. Then his brothers also went and fell down before his face, and they said, “Behold, we are your servants.”

[19]. Joseph said to them, “Do not be afraid, for am I in the place of God?

[20]. But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.

[21]. Now therefore, do not be afraid; I will provide for you and your little ones.” And he comforted them and spoke kindly to them.

EXPOSITION

The Bible is correct when it says, “There is no peace,” says the LORD, “for the wicked” (Isa. 48:22). People’s evil always haunts them, even if they appear unaffected. Joseph’s wicked brothers, though forgiven by their brother, never let go of the spirit of lying, and were lying against their father (Gen. 50:15-17). Wickedness is of various forms and degrees. Stop being wicked in lying against the living and the dead to cover up your wrongdoings (Prov. 28:13). They lied by inference that an animal had killed Joseph, thus deceiving their father, Jacob (Gen. 37:31-33). And even now, they lied, deceiving Joseph by importing what their father never commanded. Lying against people is wickedness, dear reader. Allow it to go.

The truly saved doesn’t lie to cover up his sins, incriminate the innocent, or conceal his guilt. True confession of one’s wrongdoings and abandonment of them always lead to peace of mind and the development of good relationships and reunion. Let go of all wickedness against people and nature. Stop deceiving people and permanently clean up the mess you have made.

PRAYER POINTS

[1]. O Lord, my God, purge me of the spirit and dominion of sins of Wickedness deception.

[2]. Lord, give me the spirit of straightforwardness that speaks the truth always, come what may.

[3]. Rebuke and expel the spirit of deception from our pulpits, O Lord.
