THE CIRCUIT OF GIVING
Read: 1 Peter 4:9-11
1 Peter 4:9-11 Practice hospitality to one another (those of the household of faith). [Be hospitable, be a lover of strangers, with brotherly affection for the unknown guests, the foreigners, the poor, and all others who come your way who are of Christ’s body.] And [in each instance] do it ungrudgingly (cordially and graciously, without complaining but as representing Him).
As each of you has received a gift (a particular spiritual talent, a gracious divine endowment), employ it for one another as [befits] good trustees of God’s many-sided grace [faithful stewards of the extremely diverse powers and gifts granted to Christians by unmerited favor].
Whoever speaks, [let him do it as one who utters] oracles of God; whoever renders service, [let him do it] as with the strength which God furnishes abundantly, so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ (the Messiah). To Him be the glory and dominion forever and ever (through endless ages). Amen (so be it).
MEMORISE:
So Peter [immediately] rose and accompanied them. And when he harrived, they took him to the upper room. All the widows stood around him, crying and displaying undershirts (tunics) and [other] garments such as Dorcas was accustomed to make while she was with them. (Acts 9:39).
EXPOSITION
Someone said “Some people have just rented your body to live in it for some time and depart. Others consider you as a permanent residence to dwell on forever. Whichever way, you must remember to accommodate all those who want to be accommodated. Be each other’s keeper”. Many Bible passages suffice is to know that we worked for them or are given to us. Let’s put these Scriptures in mind:
I. For who makes you differ from another? And what do you have that you did not receive? Now if you did indeed receive it, why do boast as if you had not received it (1 Cor. 4:7)?
II. Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will they pour [ad]into [the pouch formed by] the bosom [of your robe and used as a bag]. For with the measure you deal out [with the measure you use when you confer benefits on others], it will be measured back to you. (Luke 6:38)
III. Cast your bread upon the waters, For you will find it after many days (Eccl. 11:1).
IV. Having gifts (faculties, talents, qualities) that differ according to the grace given us, let us use them: [He whose gift is] prophecy, [let him prophesy] according to the proportion of his faith; [He whose gift is] practical service, let him give himself to serving; he who teaches, to his teaching; He who exhorts (encourages), to his exhortation; he who contributes, let him do it in simplicity and liberality; he who gives aid and superintends, with zeal and singleness of mind; he who does acts of mercy, with genuine cheerfulness and joyful eagerness. (Rom. 12:6-8).
Above all, be your brother’s keeper. By the way, what do you have that you have not received?
PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord, teach me the heart of given and let me know that You are the recipient of all I give.
2. Lord, help me to consider other first, in all I do, my spouse inclusive.
3. Father, please rebuke the spirit of pride from our wealthy members and leaders of the church.
