FEAR THE GREAT ENEMY OF SUCCESS
Read: 1 Samuel 17:4-11
I Samuel 17:4-11 A champion named Goliath, who was from Gath, came out of the Philistine camp. His height was six cubits and a span.
He had a bronze helmet on his head and wore a coat of scale armor of bronze weighing five thousand shekels;
On his legs he wore bronze greaves, and a bronze javelin was slung on his back.
His spear shaft was like a weaver’s rod, and its iron point weighed six hundred shekels. His shield bearer went ahead of him.
Goliath stood and shouted to the ranks of Israel, “Why do you come out and line up for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and are you not the servants of Saul? Choose a man and have him come down to me.
If he is able to fight and kill me, we will become your subjects; but if I overcome him and kill him, you will become our subjects and serve us.”
Then the Philistine said, “This day I defy the armies of Israel! Give me a man and let us fight each other.”
On hearing the Philistine’s words, Saul and all the Israelites were dismayed and terrified.

EXPOSITION
Fear is a feeling induced by perceived danger or threat that occurs in certain types of organisms, which causes a change, in metabolic function of the body, and ultimately, a change in behavior, such as fleeing, hiding or freezing from perceived traumatic events — Wikipedia.org.
For about forty days, Saul and all Israel were taunted and threatened by Goliath, the champion of the Philistine “send one man to fight me” but they could not see respond due to the perceived danger which made them to see Goliath as greater than their God. When David, God’s champion, showed up to fight Goliath, Saul told him that he was too young and did not have enough experience to fight. Thank God for the faith in the God of Israel possessed by this young man, David.
Also, in the parable of talents (Matthew 25:14-28), while the two servants who received five and two talents respectively traded with their talents and gained equal number of talents received, the third servant who received one talent said, “I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the ground” He did not only lose the talent but was cast into the outer darkness for being an unprofitable servant. Both Saul and this servant ended up their lives in shame because of fear of the great enemy of success.
The fear of failure, will keep you from trying. The fear of being alone, will keep you from lifting up a standard. The fear of rejection will cause you to compromise. But if you can overcome your fear, replace it with faith and courage. God will do great things with your life.
PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord Jesus, give me total victory over my fear of perceived danger in my pilgrimage to Your Kingdom.
2. Lord Jesus, as you saved Peter from being drown in the sea, please save me from my fears and do not allow me to be drown in the sea of the world.
3. Father, give all Christians in the troubled areas of the world, the grace to remain steadfast in You to the end. Do not allow them to be drawn in the sea of persecution.
