World Teacher’s Day & World Habitat Day

TOPIC: IS THIS WHAT YOU ARE CALLED TO DO?

Read 1 Kings 19:1-18

MEMORISE:

And there he went into a cave, and spent the night in that place; and behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and He said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” (1 Kings 19:9)

EXPOSITION

There was once a mighty man of God, a prophet who was greatly respected in his time. He was renowned for his visions, works of healing, unequal humility, impeccable words of wisdom and knowledge, plus, genuine, divine miracles and diverse wonders. He was said to be compassionate and charitable to a vault, and thus indisputably a man of the people. He came from the poorest family! Furthermore, he was blessed with dedicated and productive lieutenants in the ministry who were all good in their specialities. But, one day, one of them humbly and sincerely approached and admonished him, saying, “You are not a gifted teacher. You are only good at preaching, prophesying, seeing visions, praying for and healing the sick. Therefore, leave teaching to teachers and face your noble calling.” The reply was unbelievable, but true and equally decisive, with lasting, fatal and tragic consequences till today. He said, “I know I am not a teacher, but, I want to teach, and this I will do!” That was the beginning of his journey to a regrettable end. His life and ministry became muddled up; he became a heretic! He later died in a ghastly automobile accident after so many warnings from the Lord through fellow ministers, that he needed to repent (Prov. 1:29-33), which he rebuffed.

What are you called to do? What is your calling? Is this what you are called to do? What is your gift? Haven’t you derailed, emergency prophet? Are you still on the line? Are you holding on to what you have been given by His grace? The angel asked Elijah, “What are you doing here?”

On this auspicious day of celebrating the worth of teachers, globally, may God restore us, individually and corporately, as His people, to our rightful places in the Body of Christ, in Jesus’ name (cf. Lk. 19:11-27; Jn. 21:20-22; CAC GHB 237). Amen.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Thank You, our great Shepherd, for always seeking out the lost, and for Your invaluable gifts made available to us.

2. We repent of all sins of misusing the graces You accord us and derailments from Your original plans for us. We return to where You have ordained us to be, in Jesus’ name.

3. O Lord, save Your people from every ‘spiritual’ pride, envy, indifference, and impunity, in the name of Jesus.
