RIVER FROM THE DESERT
Read: Genesis 18:1-15
Genesis 18:1-15 Now the Lord appeared to Abraham by the oaks or terebinths of Mamre; as he sat at the door of his tent in the heat of the day,
He lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, three men stood at a little distance from him. He ran from the tent door to meet them and bowed himself to the ground
And said, My lord, if now I have found favor in your sight, do not pass by your servant, I beg of you.
Let a little water be brought, and you may wash your feet and recline and rest yourselves under the tree.
And I will bring a morsel (mouthful) of bread to refresh and sustain your hearts before you go on further—for that is why you have come to your servant. And they replied, Do as you have said.
So Abraham hastened into the tent to Sarah and said, Quickly get ready three measures of fine meal, knead it, and bake cakes.
And Abraham ran to the herd and brought a calf tender and good and gave it to the young man [to butcher]; then he [Abraham] hastened to prepare it.
And he took curds and milk and the calf which he had made ready, and set it before [the men]; and he stood by them under the tree while they ate.
And they said to him, Where is Sarah your wife? And he said, [She is here] in the tent.
[The Lord] said, I will surely return to you when the season comes round, and behold, Sarah your wife will have a son. And Sarah was listening and heard it at the tent door which was behind Him.
Now Abraham and Sarah were old, well advanced in years; it had ceased to be with Sarah as with [young] women. [She was past the age of childbearing].
Therefore Sarah laughed to herself, saying, After I have become aged shall I have pleasure and delight, my lord (husband), being old also?
And the Lord asked Abraham, Why did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I really bear a child when I am so old?
Is anything too hard or too wonderful for the Lord? At the appointed time, when the season [for her delivery] comes around, I will return to you and Sarah shall have borne a son.
Then Sarah denied it, saying, I did not laugh; for she was afraid. And He said, No, but you did laugh.
MEMORISE:
Behold, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs forth; do you not perceive and know it and will you not give heed to it? I will even make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. (Isaiah 43:19)
EXPOSITION
The least thing expected from the desert is water not to talk of river. It is a place of less than 25 centimeters of sporadic rainfall annually. A desert is a waste land. It is highly impossible to have rivers in the desert; the modern irrigation will still hot bring sufficient water to it.
Bringing water from the desert here connotes doing what is seemingly impossible which can only be made possible by God, the Maker of all things. The only one who could bring water into desert promised to do so (Isaiah 43:19)
The visiting angel told Abraham that her old wife, Sarah, would have a son. This, to the couple was an impossible task because, the woman was not only old but menopausal, but because He is God, He did as promised to Sarah. May every promised of God be fulfilled in your life now in Jesus name.
God has done series of miracles to set His people free from Egyptian bondage. These were so marvellous to the Egyptians as well as to the Israelites. But they were not going to be compared with what He will do in the wilderness and desert. If He did it then, He will do it now. He is God who knows no limitation and impossibilities. There is no life that is too bad that God can’t make good.
Doctors had taken all the fortunes of the woman with the issue of blood without solution to her problem, but when I AM THAT I AM appeared, the miraculous happened. He can do all things every time. ‘I will do a new thing’ is a sure promise from God and when He does the new thing, He deletes/overruled the ugly memories of the old.
Never write yourself off. Water from the desert cools, thirst and satisfies the soul. It removes dryness and refreshes. His help is on the way. Keep on pressing harder; He will appear soon. With Him, hope is never lost. Keep it alive.
PRAYER POINTS:
1. God, only You can do what no man can do, please do that which seems impossible in my life today and take all the glory.
2. Pray that God will visit the sick wherever they are and heal them miraculously.
3. Pray for the medical practitioners that they will see God as the greatest Healer and so commit all matters to Him.
