THE NEED FOR URGENCY
Read: Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 To everything there is a season, and a time for every matter or purpose under heaven:
A time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to pluck up what is planted,
A time to kill and a time to heal, a time to break down and a time to build up,
A time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance,
A time to cast away stones and a time to gather stones together, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
A time to get and a time to lose, a time to keep and a time to cast away,
A time to rend and a time to sew, a time to keep silence and a time to speak,
A time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.
MEMORISE:
Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol (the place of the dead), where you are going.
(Ecclesiastes 9v10)
EXPOSITION
The importance of a thing determines how urgent it is to any man. Bible commands that we should be fast in doing whatever our hands find doing. Man has just few years here on earth; therefore he can’t afford wasting those years. A little time is allotted to every man under the sun. As you have just a little time, so also the man who you are sent to. No man knows what becomes of him in the next minute. Do that which you are commissioned to do, now. You can’t afford to postpone (Eccl.9:10)
Another reason for the urgency of what you are called to do is that, the devil is working assiduously to win the battle but you can’t afford to lose it either (1 Pet.5:8). In the jungle, lions attack sick, lonely and young animals. Go in your might and do what has been committed to your hands lest the devil devours them.
Time is of essence. You don’t have it to yourself. Therefore, walk during the day, night comes when no one will be able to work. Use the energy in you now before you lose it to time. The old men were once young.
Death is rampant and people die daily in numbers. Diseases, war improved knowledge, etc cause death. About a million people died of one single virus around the world in few months. How many others died of other diseases within same period? Do you know any of the dead? Are they all saved? What has been your contribution to their salvation? Now is your day of salvation and service.
Another major reason for the need of urgency is that the end of age is here with us. The end time is nearer than ever before. Use all you have now, because they may be useless anytime soon: time is of importance (Eccl.3:1ff).
PRAYER POINTS:
1. Lord, help me to make judicious use of my time and stay here on earth.
2. I receive the strength to do that which I have been created, appointed and commissioned to do without wasting further time.
3. Lord, help our leaders; teach them what to do to rescue our nation from every disaster that is be falling her.
