TOPIC: DEVELOP YOURSELF (1)
READ: ECCLESIASTES 10:5-10
10:5 There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, as an error which proceedeth from the ruler:
10:6 Folly is set in great dignity, and the rich sit in low place.
10:7 I have seen servants upon horses, and princes walking as servants upon the earth.
10:8 He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it; and whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him.
10:9 Whoso removeth stones shall be hurt therewith; and he that cleaveth wood shall be endangered thereby.
10:10 If the iron be blunt, and he do not whet the edge, then must he put to more strength: but wisdom is profitable to direct.

EXPOSITION
KJV:If the iron be blunt, and he do not whet the edge, then must he put to more strength: but wisdom is profitable to direct. (Eccl. 10v10). It is self-development or improvement when one tries to sharpen edge and make it more efficient, and that is wisdom, which consequently brings success. Self-development connotes making oneself better. It connotes improving one’s condition. It also speaks of increasing ones capacity to contain, do or receive more. It is making one sharper, better, more useful, and resourceful. Summarily, it connotes improvements, capacity building and empowerment.
There are three major reasons you need to develop yourself. The first is God. God is proud of you because your development brings Him glory. As an improved version of yourself, God is well represented through you (Matt. 3v17). The second reason is for yourself. Self-developments makes you fulfilled, up-to-date, outstanding, impactful and resourceful. It boosts your confidence and efficiency. As an improved version of yourself, you are irreplaceable and indispensable. When you develop, you are more relevant, and you become better than you are.
Thirdly, you need development because of others too. How? You are not in this world by yourself and for yourself alone. You are a purposeful and impactful creature. You are designed to positively impact others. You are wired to relete and communicate with others. It is a better version of yourself that can meaningfully and communicate godly virtues. It is when you are developing that you can be a blessing to others. It is only then you can edify and build people up. There is no impact without development.
PRAYER POINTS:
1. Lord, help me to grow in the knowledge of Christ and in all facets of my life.
2. Lord, heal any area of my life where I have not been yielding fruit to Your glory and edification of other people.
3. Lord, deliver Your church from celebrating mediocrity, but embrace innovation and creativity, and help her to invest more in soul-winning and the development of existing members.
