UNHOLY ALLIANCE
Read: Psalms 1:1-3
[1]Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
[2]But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
[3]And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
MEMORISE: Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? (2 Corinthians 6:14).
EXPOSITION
An unholy alliance is an agreement between two or more people, or organizations who work together for a bad, ungodly purpose. Psalms 1 warns us not to do what sinners do, sit where sinners sit, or stand where sinners stand, as this is tantamount to being in alliance with unholy person’s. A spiritually-minded person and the carnally-minded are practically different in how they behave, and to whom they belong. Someone says, “we don’t collectively have salvation, we individually have it. Christianity is a journey of holiness. Anything that may/will prevent us from living as such should be totally eradicated.”
King Jehoshaphat, in 2 Chronicles 18:17-21, missed it when he associated himself with the family of Ahab. He gave his acceptance to his son marrying from the family of the godless Ahab, and went to battle with him. His actions annoyed God and he almost lost his life on the battleground. His own son turned out to be an idolater, devil and murderer. This singular act of King Jehoshaphat yielded more than what he ever dreamt of, as the kingdom of a man who began with God was turned into idolatry that resulted in God sending the nation into captivity.
Dear devout, what association do you belong to – the godly, where the people believe in God and obey all He says, or that where people claim to belong to God, yet disobey His commands? Examine the kind of company you keep, as evil association is an abomination to God. Anyone in an unholy alliance will end up being an apostate in the devil’s belly. Learn from King Jehoshaphat.
PRAYER POINTS:
1. Lord Jesus, rid me of any evil, unholy or ungodly association that I am presently in, which may mar my future.
2. Pray that God will help you to be sensitive to people around you abd those you relate with, so that you will not incur His wrath through unholy alliance.
3. Pray that salvation will come to those who are just churchgoers, but are yet to give their lives to Christ around you.
