FRUITFUL BUT UNREWARDING

Read: Matthew 7:21-23

Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

MEMORISE: And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ (Matthew 7:23).

EXPOSITION
Fruitfulness means bearing fruits; it means being fertile and productive. A reward is a thing given in recognition of service, effort, or achievement. In a correct organisational setting, every productive employee deserves to be rewarded. Likewise, recognition is given to people who are successful in the society for their meritorious labourer is worthy of his wages” (1 Tim. 5:18). Could there be an services to humanity and the society. For the Scripture says,… “The unrewarding labour/productivity?

The Scripture reading for today’s dose reveals that, though many could be regarded as fruitful or productive labourers, yet, they may still lose their ultimate rewards. The parable of Jesus here shows that for every ultimate reward-conscious believer, it is important to know that the number of miracles wraught in the ministry, missionary trips, churches built, humanitarian deeds, etc. do not automatically secure our eternal reward-bliss in Heaven (Matt. 7:22; Lk. 13:27). They aren’t automatic tickets to heaven!

Jesus shocks the world, Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord, shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven (Matt. 7:21). There is the need to ask if what you are doing, or about to start doing with great zeal and passion is what God wants you to do. Do you know and have Jesus, the way to the Father? In as much as heaven is your goal, seek to do His will. The popular saying “it is not how far but how well” remains relevant and sacrosanct. Maybe you started well but got distracted, or you are now so busy that your secret place with God now suffers, NOW is the time to return to the Lord. As the Judgement day draws near, may our wonderful works not be regarded as works of iniquity in the end. Amen.
