15 KJV:And when Joseph’s brethren saw that their father was dead, they said, Joseph will peradventure hate us, and will certainly requite us all the evil which we did unto him.

16 KJV:And they sent a messenger unto Joseph, saying, Thy father did command before he died, saying,

17 KJV:So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spake unto him.

18 KJV:And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we be thy servants.

19 KJV:And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?

20, KJV:But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

KJV:Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.

Exposition

It is natural to want to take your own pound of flesh after being slighted or wounded in a way or the other. The carnal man is well at home with the principle of an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. The question arises, here: What do you do to people who badly injure you, most especially, those doing it deliberately or out of sheer hatred or envy? It naturally comes to mind to want to revenge as soon as one has firm grip of the sword later in life.

Contrary to the above, the sweetest revenge is not taking your own pound if flesh, but put measures in place to succeed. Do you get that? Don’t try to avenge your self regarding those who offend you. Instead, make sure you success in life. That is your sweetest victory to those who think you won’t survive their onslaughters against you. Joseph is our case study, here.

Joseph’s brother had tried everything within their capacities to enviously stop *this dreamer* because they hated him for his dreams sake (Gen.37v19). They eventually sold him off to slavery thinking that was his end. While they relaxed and thought they could continue to bask in the euphoria of their brothers disappearance, alarm blew. Those wicked brothers had to come begging to buy food stuffs from Egypt. And guess what? Under the leadership of the boy they had hated and sold off. Gen.50 summarizes his response to their stupidity.

In all, this experience of Joseph confirms that waiting for God to prosper you instead of wasting your energy on fighting your enemy is the best. Jospeh clung to God. Eventually, God made it that those envious brothers bowed to him; what they did not to happen (Gen.50v11ff). Stop praying that your so-called enemies should die. Spend the energyon praying for your success. You will laugh last!

Prayer points

1. Lord, help me to stop harboring bitterness against anybody.

2. Lord, help no to cooperate with You, I’m order to become successful in my endeavours, so that this can silence Your enemies against my life.

3. Pray against every form of tribal revenge/reprisals that have wasted countless people globally.
