[22]But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
[23]Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

MEMORY VERSE: 1 Corinthians 13:13 “And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

LESSON AIM: At the end of the lesson, teenagers will understand that love is a fruit of the Holy Spirit.

CENTRAL TRUTH: Love is the preeminent fruit of the Spirit. Without it, there are no others (i.e Love births the other fruit of the Spirit)

INTRODUCTION: Love as a fruit of the Spirit is a verb, it’s not a feeling. If only expressed in words it’s essentially meaningless, though we like to hear the words ‘I LOVE YOU’, they mean nothing if not accompanied by action. Walking in love is the primary and initial way of imitating God on earth because God is Love – 1 John 4:8, the person who shares God’s love will love. “Where there is no will to love, God is absent!.

STUDY GUIDE
A.) LOVE- FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT- Philippians 2:3, John 13:35.
One of the most important traits of Christian character is love, a fruit indicating the presence of the Holy Spirit. It is a love that always seeks to do the right thing. The Love which the Holy Spirit manifests in believers is called the agape. This love is not a feeling, but a choice. It is the choice to be kind, to sacrifice, to consider another’s needs greater than one’s own. As believers, we are to love like God and this love is to be shown to all especially the unlovable, undeserving, unbelievers.

B.) CHARACTERISTICS OFLOVE – 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a
1- It is an indicator that we are believers -John 13:34
2- It is patient
3- It is kind
4- It does not envy
5- It does not boast
6- It is not rude
7- It is not self-seeking
8- It is not easily angered
9- Love does not delight in evil

LIFE APPLICATION: Outside of God, however, we are unable to love perfectly. It is only through the work of the Holy Spirit that we can set aside our sinfulness and our selfishness.

CONCLUSION: As a child of God, we need to strive to show others God’s love through us and let the fruit of love ripen inside our spirit. John 13:35.
