SEE THAT THEY OBEY YOU

Read: 1 Timothy 3:4,5

[4]One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;
[5](For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)

MEMORISE: One who rules his own house well, having his children in submission with all reverence (1 Timothy 3:4).

EXPOSITION
The NIV renders 1 Timothy 3:4 as He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him with proper respect. The see that in this rendering places a compelling sense of duty on parents to ensure their children comply with, conform to God’s holy standard in Christ Jesus (cf. Rom. 8:29;2 Cor. 10:5,6).

God expects that parents should consciously see to it that their children become His best. They must cooperate with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, and by His Spirit to have their children in Submission with all reverence. The children must be assisted to obey the Lord, notwithstanding the cost. God trusted Abraham that he wouldn’t fail in this respect. Read Genesis 18:18, 19. Can God trust you to that level with the children He is entrusting into your care? You can’t afford to fail Him!

However, it isn’t going to be easy to see that the children obey God properly. Why? Satan, sin, the world (1 Pet. 5:8; 1 Jn. 2:16). Yet, the parents must cooperate with God for this to be possible. How? They must be born again. You cannot give what you don’t have. He who i not obeying Christ can seldom assist others to do so.
In addition, parents, having accepted the lordship of Christ, should ask for the grace of effective parenting. It is grace that makes that possible. How was the young/green Samuel able to thrive spiritually in the environment with the wayward, most corrupt sons of Eli? How could Evangelist Philip raise 4 wonderful virgins, highly prophetic, in a corrupt gentile society like Caesarea (Acts 21:8,9)?

Grace! Take the children to God early in life, and regularly pray for them. Be duly involved in their lives and living. The truth is, we must consciously see to their welfare; no unnecessary passiveness!

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY: CAC GHB 551
1. Ye little ones keep close to God
In trembling and humility,
Let all knees bow down before Him,
Our Lord and Saviour and our friend.

2. O Saviour, let Thy great mercy
Fill us with gratitude to Thee
And in our pilgrimage on earth
May we receive more of Thy grace.

3. O Saviour, may all evil thoughts
Be far away flung from our hearts,
And each day, give us Thy wisdom
To choose to walk the narrow way.

4. In times of sickness and good health,
In times of plenty or in need,
And when the hour of death shall come
Deliver us with Thy great pow’r.

Amen.

PRAYER POINTS:
1. Lord, help me to see to it that my children obey You to letter.
2. Pray for the grace to be a successful parent in all ramifications.
3. Do you have any problem child, or you have any one around you? Intercede for their conversion and divine visitation, now.
