MEMORISE

Through wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established (Proverbs 24:3).

READ: Proverb 2:1-6

[1]. My son, if you receive my words, And treasure my commands within you,

[2]. So that you incline your ear to wisdom, And apply your heart to understanding;

[3]. Yes, if you cry out for discernment, And lift up your voice for understanding,

[4]. If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures;

[5]. Then you will understand the fear of the Lord, And find the knowledge of God.

[6]. For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding;

EXPOSITION

It is with understanding that a marriage is established and made strong. Some couples have enough wisdom to start the marriage, but lack understanding to establish it. Marriage stands by applied understanding, but falls when understanding is missing (Amos 3:3, Mk 3:25). Understanding is the power or ability to comprehend something. We may know a lot of things, but until we comprehend them (understand them fully, or grasp their very nature), they make no difference to us, and add no value to us.

You cannot have deep knowledge and perception of your spouse, no matter the number of years you have been in marriage, if you lack understanding. Understanding also has to do with the ability to comprehend why someone behaves in a particular way and the willingness to forgive when he/she does something wrong. Understanding is at work when you have a friendly or harmonious relationship in your marriage. Where there is no understanding in marriage, there will always be chaos and confusion. Why? Understanding helps you to adjust yourself, accordingly, to your spouse. Understanding is extremely important when it comes to having a healthy and successful marriage. When you understand each other, new vision and progress emerge, and that, to your immediate and ultimate benefits, and to God’s glory. You are immediately energised to work on your marriage, even if it has been rife with troubles (Prov. 16:16; 23:23). If you can go to God in prayer, He will give it to you (Psa. 119:144).

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY:
CAC GHB 693

1. “Love him who’s thy neighbour”
It is the Lord’s command
He made Himself an example
By the way He loved us.

2. “Love him who’s thy neighbour”
Whether in peace or war
He taught us to love all our foes,
Repay evil with good.

3. “Love him who’s thy neighbour”
The Lord’s voice trumpets still
So, all of us ought to prepare
To love all our neighbours.

4. “Love him who’s thy neighbour”
And those living next door
Those that are in your neighbourhood
And all your enemies.

5. To love our neighbours as
Jesus Himself loved us
Jesus loved all His enemies
And blessed and prayed for them.

Amen.
