TOPIC: FAITH-A TOOL TO WALK WITH GOD
MEMORISE
But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6).
READ:
Hebrews 11:1-8
[1]. Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
[2]. For by it the elders obtained a good testimony.
[3]. By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.
[4]. By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts; and through it he being dead still speaks.
[5]. By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, “and was not found, because God had taken him”; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
[6]. But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
[7]. By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith
[8]. By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.
EXPOSITION
*Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen,* so says Hebrews 11:1. Let us take that as a master definition of the concept. Simply put, in the Microsoft Encarta, it is “belief in and devotion to God. Verse 2 of Hebrews 11 implies the indispensability: *For by it the elders obtained a good testimony.* Here we are talking of the working faith that makes things happen positively in the Lord
Read the testimony of a man of God: “There was a day, I was so much stressed up and had completely lost hope on a hospitalised fellow. Though, we had been praying for him for quick recovery, it was as if we didn’t believe that he would come up again, because of the precariousness of his condition. One night, the person with him called me, I didn’t pick the call, because honestly, it was like Satan was ministering to me, If you want to have happy night rest, don’t pick the call. I didn’t pick the call, thinking that he wanted to tell me an unpalatable news about the sick brother. Fear gripped me throughout the night that I could hardly sleep. In the morning, I chose to return the call, only to discover that the fellow had an information entirely different from anything about the sick brother. In fact, the person was alive, and he was later discharged, hale and hearty. Isn’t that serious? He almost killed himself for nothing sake. That is an effect of fear, the opposite of faith.
Therefore, let us be bold, jettisoning fear, lest the devil cheats us (2 Tim. 1:7). Stop behaving like those brethren praying for Peter’s release, but didn’t really believe it could happen (Acts 12:5ff)! Have strong faith in God; it works wonders! By it alone, we can walk effectively with, and work for God (Heb. 11:6).
SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY:
CAC GHB 625
1. In some way or other the
Lord will provide
It may not be my way, it may not be thy way
And yet, in His own way, the
Lord will provide.
Then we’ll trust in the Lord, and
He will provide;
Yes, we’ll trust in the Lord, and
He will provide.
2. At some time or other, the Lord will provide,
It may not be my time,
It may not be thy time,
And yet, in His own time, the Lord will provide.
3. Despond then no longer,
The Lord will provide
And this be the token, no word He hath spoken
Was ever yet broken,
the Lord will provide.
4. March on then right boldly, the sea shall divide,
The pathway made glorious,
With shoutings victorious
We’ll join in the chorus,
the Lord will provide.
Amen.
PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord, let my faith be strongly anchored on You alone, in Jesus name.
2. I rebuke and command to leave me, you spirit of fear in my walk with Christ, in the name of Jesus.”
3. Lord, give Your Church the faith, boldness, patience and love to victoriously confront every force against Your Gospel in the land.
