PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE: Leader should ask members to evaluate activity of last week as assigned at the end of the first quarter.

MEMORY VERSE: “He that loveth not knoweth not God, for God is love.”1 John 4:8

BIBLE TEXT: I John 3:1-3
[1]Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
[2]Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
[3]And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

LESSON INTRODUCTION: Unconditional love simply means love without strings attached. Love you offered freely and want nothing more than the happiness of others. In John 3:16, Bible says God loves us unconditionally by releasing His son to pay the penalty for sin we committed. Every believer should follow the example of our Saviour Jesus as He died for the world in order to win it.

LESSON AIM: To make believers understand what agape or unconditional love is and what love can do.

TEACHING OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, members should be able to:
– know what agape love is.
– know what love can do.

TEXT REVIEW: I John 3:1-3
• It is a divine privilege to be called God’s children.
– The world is yet to know the value we carry as children of God.
– When Christ comes, we will be like Him.
– Having this blessing as God’s children will keep us pure just like Christ.

3. It can unleash unmerited favour – Esther 2:17.
4. It brings correction not abandonment – Proverbs 3:12.
5. It does wrong to no one – Romans 13:10.

ACTIVITY: Mention Biblical characters who showed unconditional love during their earthly sojourn.

SUMMARY: But I lavish my love on those who love me and obey my commands, even for thousand generations – Exodus 20:6.
