TOPIC: GIVING THANKS IN ALL THINGS

MEMORIZE:

In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (1 Thessalonians 5:18)

READ: Job 1:20-21

[20] Then Job arose, tore his robe, and shaved his head; and he fell to the ground and worshiped.

[21] And he said: “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, And naked shall I return there. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; Blessed be the name of the LORD.”

EXPOSITION

Welcome to the new year 2024. Today, we commence the first day of the year; let us make it a habit to continually give thanks to God in all circumstances. The lessons from the Book of Job are endless. Despite the calamities, tragedies, losses, mourning, and the challenges that Job faced beyond what any human could bear, he still praised God saying Blessed be the name of the Lord (Job 1:21). What a lesson! As it might be easy to narrate, or read than having the experience, nevertheless, the Word of Lord God for you today, that in all things, give thanks [to God always] because this is the love of God through Christ for you. Beloved give thanks to Him, most especially when you are not aware of what He made to happen to you, and for the ones you know the reasons (Psalms 115:3). Thank Him in your time of troubles and bad news, because the Bible says ” all things (both good and seemingly bad) work together for good for those who love God and are called according to His purpose (cf. Romans 8:28).” Are you part of those who love God and called according to His purpose? If yes, after this, worry a little; rejoice and give thanks to God for everything that delay, rejection and sorrows that He allows in your life. Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God (Philippians 4:6).
