DATE : Wednesday, January 10, 2024

TOPIC: : FEEDING ON GOD’S WORD

MEMORISE : Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord (Colossians 3:16)

READ: Colossians 3:12-17

[12]. Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering;

[13]. bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.

[14]. But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.

[15]. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.

[16]. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

[17]. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

EXPOSITION

Believers are called to feed on God’s Word daily. This is how to put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of the Creator (Col 3:12-17). We must constantly renew our mind with God’s Word so that we can be transformed into the likeness of Christ (cf. Rom. 8:29). As God’s children, we must embody Christlike virtues (v. 12). Although, these virtues are not natural to us, they are produced in us as the fruit of the Spirit when we abide in Christ and His Word. Feeding on God’s Word fills us with His Spirit and empowers us to live out these virtues in our daily lives.

Paul also emphasises the importance of forgiveness and love just as Christ loves us (vv. 13-14). Meditating on God’s love for us may not always be easy, but it fills us with His love. This enables us to love others in the same way. Also, let Christ’s peace rule your heart and be thankful in all circumstances (vv. 15-17). As we allow the Word of Christ to dwell in us richly, we are filled with wisdom and can admonish one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Undeniably, feeding on God’s Word is essential for our spiritual growth and development. As we meditate on His Word, we are filled with His Spirit and empowered to live out Christ’s virtues in our daily lives. Prioritise spending time in God’s Word daily.
