DATE:  Thursday, January 25, 2024

TOPIC:  THE SAFE HOUSE (II)

MEMORISE : The LORD is your keeper; the LORD is your shade of your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night (Psalm 121: 5-6)

READ: Psalm 91: 4-16

[4]. He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.

[5]. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day,

[6]. Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.

[7]. A thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you.

[8]. Only with your eyes shall you look, And see the reward of the wicked.

[9]. Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place,

[10]. No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;

[11]. For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways.

[12]. In their hands they shall bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.

[13]. You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.

[14]. “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name.

[15]. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him.

[16]. With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation.”

EXPOSITION

Are you beaten and battered by life’s situation? There is a safe place for you to find succour and comfort for your soul (Matt. 11:28-30). In the OT, there is the City of Refuge, a place security for anyone who makes it to the place. Outside it, the avenger of blood is available to avenge the blood of the murdered. God created and is supported by OT tradition, particularly in the Hebrew homeland (Exo 21:13; Num. 35-6 34: Jos 201ff). Today, One more than the city of refuge is here. God Himself has offered to be our refuge, if we would run to Him. He who refuses this Refuge is a chick that strays from the hen into the hawk’s waiting claws. God’s desire is for man to always be in His presence to enjoy the blessings therein (Psa. 16:11). It is His original plan to provide man with good and secure habitation, a place of comfort and fellowship. Anyone who has experienced the serene atmosphere of God’s presence will always want to be there, even permanently. Only Adam and Eve would be able to explain what they missed in Eden. The safety and the beauty of the presence of God, made David cringe in Psalm 42:1. As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You O God. Please always desire and perspire to access the safe house of God, for first class provision, protection, shelter, security and answered prayers. God bless you.

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY:
CAC GHB: 676

1. Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee;
Let the water and the blood,
From Thy riven side which flowed
Be of sin the double cure,
Cleanse me from its guilt and power.

2. Not the labours of my hands
Can fulfil Thy law’s demands;
Could my zeal no respite know,
Could my tears for ever flow,
All for sin could not atone:
Thou must save, and Thou alone.

3. Nothing in my hand I bring,
Simply to Thy Cross I cling;
Naked, come to Thee for dress;
Helpless, look to Thee for grace;
Foul, I to the fountain fly;
Wash me, Saviour, or I die.

4. While I draw this fleeting breath.
When my eyelids close in death,
When I soar to worlds unknown,
See Thee on Thy judgment throne;
Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee.

Amen.
