TOPIC: COOPERATE WITH GOD (1)

MEMORISE: … Jehoshaphat stood and said, “hear me, O Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem: Believe in the LORD your God, and you shall be established (2 Chronicles 20:20)

READ : 2 Chronicles. 30:1, 2

[1]. And Hezekiah sent to all Israel and Judah, and also wrote letters to Ephraim and Manasseh, that they should come to the house of the Lord at Jerusalem, to keep the Passover to the Lord God of Israel.

[2]. For the king and his leaders and all the assembly in Jerusalem had agreed to keep the Passover in the second month

EXPOSITION

The Lord God is not a cruel and distant being, but rather a loving and friendly presence who desires a personal and collective relationship with His people. In the Garden of Eden, where He placed Adam and Eve, He would often visit them in the cool of the day His intention is for us to have a warm and sweet connection with Him which requires our cooperation. In our text today, Hezekiah reaches out to the entire land of Israel, urging them to return to God after years of straying from His presence. Hezekiah had witnessed numerous atrocities committed in the land during his father Ahaz’s reign. Ahaz had engaged in wicked acts, like idol worship and even closing the doors of the Temple.

As a true reformer, God used Hezekiah to bring Israel back to Himself. He commanded them to turn back to the Lord and not follow the sinful path of their ancestors. Hezekiah warned them, saying, Now Don’t be stiff-necked, as your fathers were, but yield yourselves to the Lord…(v. 8). This aligns with the Scripture that encourages believers … believe in the Lord your God and you shall be established…(2 Chr 20:20c). When we cooperate with God, we experience His guiding presence and receive divine blessings. Cooperation with God leads to establishment, goodness, favour, and overall prosperity. To understand the outcome of avoiding evil and delighting in God’s law, read Psalm 1:1- 3.

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY:
CAC GHB: 627

1. My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
No merit of my own I claim,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name

Chorus:
On Christ, the solid rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

2. When long appears my toilsome race,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil

3. His oath, His covenant, and blood,
Support me in the whelming flood;
When every earthly prop gives way,
He then is all my hope and stay.

4. When the last trumpet’s voice shall sound,
Oh may I then in Him be found.
Robbed in His righteousness alone,
Faultness to stand before the throne.

Amen.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Lord, help me not to abandon You and cooperate with Satan, Your enemy, in Jesus’ name.

2. Lord Jesus, make it possible for me to love You and cause other people to follow Your path.

3. Lord, give us leaders to lead us in Your path of righteousness rather than taking us far away from You, in Jesus’ name.
