TOPIC: DON’T FUEL THE INFERNO

MEMORISE : But the cowardly unbeliesing abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorums Idolaters, and all fiars shall have their part in the lake… (Revelation 21:8).

READ: Luke 16:19-31

[19]. There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day.

[20]. But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate,

[21]. I desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.

[22]. So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried.

[23]. And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

[24]. “Then he cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.’

[25]. But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented.

[26]. And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.’

[27]. “Then he said, ‘I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father’s house,

[28]. for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.’

[29]. Abraham said to him, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.’

[30]. And he said, ‘No, father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’

[31]. But he said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.’”

EXPOSITION

How will Sodom and Gomorrah ever forget the devastating effect of God’s judgement on them (Gen. 19:12-29)? Likewise, only the people of Noah’s day can fully express the devastating effects of God’s destruction unleashed on them in the deluge (7:1ff). Would Pharaoh and his people forget the plagues and the sorrow of losing their firstborns (Exo. 12:29-30)? God is not a man that you can joke with. He is terrifying when it comes to dealing with sin. Had the man in our text today known he was fuelling the inferno with his ungodly attitudes, he would have desisted from them quickly. The Bible records that he was so selfish and callous to his poor neighbour, Lazarus, He was only adding fuel to the inferno through his self-centredness and lack of regard for God. He finally ran into his hullabaloo.

Today, we do a lot of things that aren’t anything but “fuelling the inferno”, such as vain religiosity, as today marks World Religion Day. Are you a church member but not a follower of Christ? You claim to be born again, yet you find nothing bad in keeping godless companies and commit all kinds of atrocities. You are fuelling the inferno! You have been hearing the gospel, but have continually rejected Christ as Saviour, you are also fuelling the inferno. Yield totally to God today, and save yourself the impending doom that is looming on this wicked world. You are playing with fire, if you are part of the nefarious marketers.

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY:
CAC GHB: 717

1. Jesus, I will trust Thee, trust Thee, with my soul;
Guilty, lost, and helpless, Thou canst make me whole,
There is none in heaven or on earth like Thee:
Thou hast died for sinners therefore, Lord, for me.

2. Jesus, I may trust Thee, name of match-less worth,
Spoken by the angel at Thy wondrous birth;
Written, and for ever, on Thy cross of shame,
Sinners read and worship, trusting in that name.

3. Jesus, I must trust Thee, pondering Thy ways,
Full of love and mercy all Thine earthly days:
Sinners gather’d round Thee,
lepers sought Thy face –
None too vile or loathsome for a
Saviour’s grace.

4. Jesus, I can trust Thee, trust Thy written word,
Though Thy voice of pity I have never heard
When Thy Spirit teacheth, to my
taste how sweet
Only may I hearken, sitting at Thy feet.

5. Jesus, I do trust Thee, trust without a doubt:
Whosoever cometh, Thou wilt not cast out;
Faithful is Thy promise, precious is Thy blood;
These my soul’s salvation, Thou my Saviour God.

Amen.

PRAYER POINTS

2. From every character that can lead me down the road to hell, oh Lord, purge me.
