TOPIC: ALTAR OF PRAISE

MEMORISE : And the priests attended to their services; the Levites also with instruments of the music of the LORD which King David had made to praise the LORD, saying, “For His mercy endures forever.” (2 Chronicles 7:6).

READ
1 Chronicles 6: 31, 32

[31]. Now these are the men whom David appointed over the service of song in the house of the Lord, after the ark came to rest.

[32]. They were ministering with music before the dwelling place of the tabernacle of meeting, until Solomon had built the house of the Lord in Jerusalem, and they served in their office according to their order.

EXPOSITION

Believers must build altars of praise to God to appreciate and acknowledge Him for His goodness and mercy, considering the value He places on praise and thanksgiving unto Him (Psa 136.1). While prayer is a medium of communing with God and presenting our requests before Him, praise touches Him. Praising God causes Him to rise on the throne and intervene in your matter, to His own glory. God spoke in favour of Noah and the earth when He saw how Noah offered sacrifice of praise to Him

Praise also shows how appreciative you are to God. It demonstrates the value you place on Him. When you praise God, you are expressing your love for Him. David, for example, emphasised the importance of praising and thanking God (Read 1 Chro. 6:31ff; 15:16:16; 7- 36; 2 Chro 7:6). He erected altars of praise in Israel and brought the Priests and Levites back into the business of praising and serving God. If you have praised God well, you have prayed well. David was a man of great praise to God. Through thanksgiving and praise, he restored Israel to God. As Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah praised God, He set an ambush against their enemies and they destroyed themselves. This highlights the significance of building a praise altar unto God, even as today marks National Fun at Work Day

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY:
CAC GHB: 68

1. Praise the King of Glory,
He is God alone:
Praise Him for the wonders,
He to us hath shown;
For His promised presence,
All the pilgrim way,
For the flaming pillar,
And the cloud by day.

Chorus:
Praise …Him, shining angels,
Strike …Your harps of gold,
All ….His hosts adore Him,
Who….His face behold;
Through …His great dominion.
While …the ages roll
All His works shall praise Him
All His works shall praise Him
Bless the Lord, my soul!.

2. Praise Him for redemption, free to every soul;
Praise Him for the Fountain that can make us whole;
For His gifts of Kindness and His loving care,
For the blest assurance that He answers prayer.

3. Praise Him for the trials sent as cords of love
Binding us more closely to the things above;
For the faith that conquers, hope that naught can dim,
For the land where loved ones gather unto Him.

Amen.
