TOPIC: BREAK YOUR EGYPTIAN EMBARGO!

MEMORISE

So Pharaoh said, “I will let you go, that you may sacrifice to the LORD your God in the wilderness; only you shall not go very far away. Intercede for me” (Exodus. 8:28).

READ: : Exodus 8:25-30

[25]. Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said, “Go, sacrifice to your God in the land.”

[26]. And Moses said, “It is not right to do so, for we would be sacrificing the abomination of the Egyptians to the Lord our God. If we sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes, then will they not stone us?

[27]. We will go three days’ journey into the wilderness and sacrifice to the Lord our God as He will command us.”

[28]. So Pharaoh said, “I will let you go, that you may sacrifice to the Lord your God in the wilderness; only you shall not go very far away. Intercede for me.”

[29]. Then Moses said, “Indeed I am going out from you, and I will entreat the Lord, that the swarms of flies may depart tomorrow from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people. But let Pharaoh not deal deceitfully anymore in not letting the people go to sacrifice to the Lord.”

[30]. So Moses went out from Pharaoh and entreated the Lord.

EXPOSITION

Pharaoh knew that if he released the Israelites, the people he had hitherto used as labourers would all be gone. He failed to acknowledge the all-powerfulness of the God of Israel. This warranted his vituperations in Exodus 5:2ff. Who would do the arduous tasks left by the Israelites, he taught. What a selfish leader who needed to be taught some lessons! God’s people’s skills and resources were being exploited! Yet, Pharaoh was stiff-necked; unwilling to release them. There was the need for a stronger Power to break Pharaoh’s and enforce the people’s release. Even the LORD Himself asked, Shall the prey be taken from the mighty, or the captives of the righteous be delivered (Isa. 49:24)? But He answered, Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible be delivered; for I will contend with him who contends with you, and I will save your children (Isa. 49:25; cf. Matt. 11:12)

Do you think the enemy will easily let you go into your Canaan? You cannot afford settling for the conditional release! You should be free indeed (Jn. 8:32). While today marks Black History Month and World Interfaith Harmony Week, you must prayerfully break every satanic barricades and stopovers. Employ Christ’s provision and arsenal (1 Cor. 15:57). Be empowered to go far in life, in Jesus’ name.
