TOPIC: WOMAN: A WORTHY VESSEL?

MEMORISE : Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies (Proverbs 31:10).

READ: Proverbs 31:10-31

[10]. Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies.

[11]. The heart of her husband safely trusts her; so he will have no lack of gain.

[12]. She does him good and not evil. All the days of her life.

[13]. She seeks wool and flax, and willingly works with her hands.

[14]. She is like the merchant ships, She brings her food from afar.

[15]. She also rises while it is yet night, And provides food for her household, And a portion for her maidservants.

[16]. She considers a field and buys it; from her profits she plants a vineyard.

[17]. She girds herself with strength, And strengthens her arms.

[18]. She perceives that her merchandise is good, And her lamp does not go out by night.

[19]. She stretches out her hands to the distaff, And her hand holds the spindle.

[20]. She extends her hand to the poor, Yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy.

[21]. She is not afraid of snow for her household, For all her household is clothed with scarlet.

[22]. She makes tapestry for herself; Her clothing is fine linen and purple.

[23]. Her husband is known in the gates,
When he sits among the elders of the land.

[24]. She makes linen garments and sells them, And supplies sashes for the merchants.

[25]. Strength and honor are her clothing;
She shall rejoice in time to come.

[26]. She opens her mouth with wisdom,
And on her tongue is the law of kindness.

[27]. She watches over the ways of her household, And does not eat the bread of idleness.

[28]. Her children rise up and call her blessed;
Her husband also, and he praises her:

[29]. “Many daughters have done well, But you excel them all.”

[30]. Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.

[31]. Give her of the fruit of her hands, And let her own works praise her in the gates.

EXPOSITION

International Women’s Day should not be despised or undermined because, women play important roles and make valuable contributions in all aspects of life. In the Bible, Apostle Peter advises husbands to treat their wives with understanding, acknowledging that they may be more delicate as weaker vessels (1 Pet. 3:7). However, this does not mean that women are weak, or lacking in character. The intention is for husbands to cherish and handle their wives with care, just as one would handle a precious, fragile object. In essence, Peter is stressing that husbands should see their wives as precious gifts and treat them with love and care. Only ungodly husbands would mistreat their wives instead of showing them affection. Only cruel husbands who are obviously in need of rehabilitation would harm their spouses.

Women are not supposed to be called weaker vessels as being interpreted. They are strong in character and strength. There are many strong women in the Bible, such as Deborah, Abigail, Jochebed, Hannah, Sarah, Lydia, Tabitha, and Jael. These women showed their strength through their character and knowledge, and made a lasting impact on their society. They left a bold mark in history that will never be forgotten. But there are some women who are truly awful. They are unworthy and feeble. Just think of Jezebel, Delilah, Athaliah, and others. Dear women, strive to be the virtuous women you were meant to be. Happy Women’s Day.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Lord Jesus, thank You for the ministry of women in our society. Please help them to be the best version of themselves that You created them to be.

2. Lord Jesus, continue to make women useful instruments in Your hand, and never allow the devil to lay hand on them.

3. Oh Lord God, deliver those women and children who are in war prone zones, and those in one crisis or the other, in Jesus’ name.

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY:
CAC GHB: 452

1. Just as God who reigns on high
Spake to men in days gone by,
So the Lord is calling men today,
And, my brother this is true,
Whatso-e’er He says to you
There is but one thing to do just obey

Chorus:
Just obey, just obey,
Is the way, God’s way;
When His message comes to you
There is but one thing to do,
Just obey just obey.

2. If you’re in the Saviour’s hand,
You must do as He commands
For there is no other gospel way;
Never put the message by,
Never stop to reason why,
When the Saviour speaks to you, just obey.

3. If for mansions fair you sigh
In that land beyond the sky,
After time with you has pass’d away;
Tho’ the way you may not see,
Christ is calling “Follow Me.”
Faith and duty both will cry just obey.

Amen.
