TOPIC: Power Of Infilling Of The Holy Spirit

OPENING PRAYER: Father, please fill me afresh with Your Holy Spirit daily in Jesus name.

MEMORY VERSE: “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” – Acts 1:8 (KJV)

BIBLE TEXT: Acts 10:34-44 (KJV)

34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:

35 But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.

36 The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:)

37 That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;

38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

39 And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree:

40 Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly;

41 Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.

42 And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead.

43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.

44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.

LESSON INTRODUCTION: The infilling of the Holy Spirit is a gift offered to the children of God and is the power from on high (Luke 24:49) which Jesus promised to His disciples. It is called the baptism in the Holy Spirit which is received by faith and prayer and may be accomplished by laying on of hands. The infilling, i.e. the baptism of the Holy Spirit, releases the power on the believer to do the work of the ministry of our Lord Jesus. (Acts 1:8; 10:38).

LESSON AIM: To enable members to understand what the infilling of the Holy Spirit does to believers.

TEACHING OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the lesson, members should be able to:

  1. know what the infilling of Holy Spirit does and the signs.
  2. know steps required before accessing Holy Spirit baptism.

TEXT REVIEW: Acts 10:34-38

a. Apostle Peter that was afraid to declare the message of hope ame bold and courageous.
b. He preached the gospel with the help of Holy Spirit
c. The Holy Spirit brings about deliverance, healings and empowers man to do great things
d. The evidence of the infilling of the Holy Spirit is the verbal expression of unknown tongues.

LESSON OUTLINE ONE: WHO DOES THE INFILLING AND SIGNS?

The infilling of Holy Spirit is done by the Holy Spirit Himself. In Luke 24:49, Jesus told His disciples to remain in Jerusalem until He sends the Holy Spirit that will fill them and empower them for the work He was committing into their hands. When the Holy Spirit fills you, it is evident by your ability to speak in an unknown tongue – Acts 2:4. The infilling of the Holy Spirit empowers you to do the following:

i. Boldness to witness Christ – Acts 2:1-8: 1:8.

ii. Fruitful in the work of the ministry – Acts 11:24.

iii. Ability to overcome sin – Galatians 5:16.

iv. Deeper understanding of God’s word. Isaiah 50:41

v. Endurance of trials – I Peter 1:7.

vi. Manifestation of spiritual gifting – I Corinthians 12:7-10.

vii. Helps you to pray – Romans 8:26-27.

LESSON OUTLINE TWO: STEPS TO THE INFILLING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

  1. Repentance and genuine conversion – Acts 3:19.
  2. Readiness to receive the Holy Spirit – Acts 2:1-4.
  3. Ask for the infilling of the Holy Spirit – Acts 15:8; John 14:13-14
  4. Laying on of hands – 1 Timothy 4:14, Acts 19:6
  5. Continuous praying in tongues

ACTIVITY: What are things that can impede the baptism of the Holy Spirit?

SUMMARY: The infilling of the Holy Spirit is the power from on high released to do all things. Every believer filled with the Holy Spirit is empowered to do exploits for the Lord – Daniel 11:32.

CONCLUSION: Every genuine child of God needs the infilling of the Holy Spirit to succeed in their daily walk with God. We must therefore desire the Holy Spirit, be filled and depend on the Holy Spirit.

PRAYER POINTS

  1. Father, thank You for sending your Holy Spirit to us.
  2. Pray that there will an outpour of the Holy Spirit on new converts.
