MATURITY MATTERS
TEXT: 1 CORINTHIANS 14:20-25
MEMORY VERSE: “Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men” (1 CORINTHIANS 14:20).
Maturity encompasses being aware of the correct time and place to behave and knowing when to act, according to the circumstances and the culture of the society one lives in. A child-adult metaphor is the basis of Paul’s exhortations on maturity.
The passage of our consideration must be understood in relation to the various problems in the Corinthian Church. Maturity results from a full knowledge of the apostolic teaching about Christ and salvation, and from correct application of this teaching to everyday life. Maturity is the Church’s goal for its members. The mature Christian is known by the following:
(1) He is humble like his Master, Jesus, who was obedient to God up to the point of death on the cross.
(2) He loves even the seemingly unlovable.
(3) He puts positive construction on every situation.
(4) He is not selfish but considerate.
(5) He endures all things.
(6) He puts God first in all things.
(7) He is disciplined in his associations and does things appropriately. Maturity is not by chronological age but by prayers, learning and practice.

CHALLENGE: Humility is the key to Christian maturity.
PRAYER: Lord, give me grace to be humble and mature.
