DON’T BE BLIND TO THE TREASURES OF DARKNESS!
Read: Isaiah 42:16-20
Isaiah 42:16-20 And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them.
They shall be turned back, they shall be greatly ashamed, that trust in graven images, that say to the molten images, Ye are our gods.
Hear, ye deaf; and look, ye blind, that ye may see.
Who is blind, but my servant? or deaf, as my messenger that I sent? who is blind as he that is perfect, and blind as the LORD’S servant?
Seeing many things, but thou observest not; opening the ears, but he heareth not.
MEMORISE:
I will give you the treasures of darkness and hidden riches of secret places (Isaiah 45:3)
EXPOSITION
Blindness is a condition of lacking the ability to see. The servant of the Lord in this context has been described as ‘blind.’ But why? In another passage, God ordered, Bring out the blind people who have eyes, and the deaf who have ears (Isa. 43:8). The metaphor of blindness was used by God to portray Israel, His servant. This was clarified in Isaiah 42:19: Who is blind but My servant, or deaf as My messenger whom I send? Who is blind as he who is perfect, and blind as the Lord’s servant? Israel was sent to be a light to the Gentiles by bringing them to the knowledge of the Lord, but they themselves were spiritually blind! God accused them of seeing many things, but you do not observe; opening the ears, but he does not hear (Isa. 42:20).
When you are a child of covenant or privileged to be a servant of the Lord and you suffer spiritual blindness, the consequences will be:
1. You will walk by sight instead of by faith (2 Cor. 5:7).
2. You may have outsight but not insight, and insight is better than outsight (Isa. 42:20).
3. You will be led by those you ought to be leading (Acts 9:8).
4. You will not see the promised treasure of darkness because your sight isn’t bright enough (Isa. 45:3).
5. You will long for His promises but loath the process (Eph. 1:18).
6. You will not take affliction in good faith (Psa. 119:71).
7. You will be running around for only ‘shining time’ that doesn’t reveal the goodness of God (Jn. 6:25-26).
8. You will be afraid of the prince of darkness, even though, He who created darkness and covers Himself with thick darkness is around you! (Psa. 18:11; 97:2; Isa. 45:7; Exo. 20:21).
PRAYER POINTS
1. Thank the Lord who gives you sight and ability to see beyond the ordinary.
2. Reflect on points 1-8 above and pray those consequences wouldn’t describe you.
3. Ask God to open the eyes of the youth in this generation to their true spiritual status so that all of us can change and become God’s best.
