THINGS GOD HATE

Read:  Proverbs 6:16-19

Proverbs 6:16-19  These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

MEMORISE:

For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for flesh, but through love serve one another (Galatians 5:13)

EXPOSITION

Our God passionately hates everything that is contrary to His Holy nature and righteousness. Paul stated some in His letter to the Galatians (5:19-21). Ungodly, or unholy acts are offshoots of sin, which has its origin in the Garden of Eden. Mankind, and by implication, all creation are currently subjected to, and subdued under sin and corruption (Rom. 8:20). God will not favour anything/one that opposes His purpose and refuses to bring forth His praise.

Let us see few of these things:

1.  Proud look: This is characteristic of the wicked. Remember what led to the downfall of Satan.

2.  Lying tongue: The Lord, Jesus Christ, speaks of the devil as a liar and the father of liars in John 8:44 among other things. The end of such people is the lake of fire; that is, destruction (Rev. 21:8).

3.  Hand that shed innocent blood: Cain was the first among men to do this, and he was cursed for it and banished from God’s presence (Gen. 4:8-16).

4.  Heart that devises wicked imaginations: Ahitophel was found guilty of this by his evil counsel to Absalom. He suffered for it by hanging himself (2 Sam. 16:20 -17:23; cf. Acts 5:3,4).

5.  Feet running swiftly to mischief: Gehazi, the servant of Elisha “ran” after Naaman. He got what he deserved – leprosy! (2 Kgs. 5:20,21-27).

6.  False witness: Those who do this are paid, or gratified for this act. They have been part of every act of murder since time.

7.  Sower of discord among brethren: Lev. 19:16 says: You shall not go up and down as a tale bearer among your people… (cf. Prov. 18:18).

All of these are corruption in the sight of the Lord, and He hates them, even as we celebrate the International Anti-Corruption Day. Vengeance is coming upon all who persist in such.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Help me, O Lord Jesus, to hate what You hate, and love what You love.

2. Don’t allow me to have pleasure in what You desist from, so that I don’t incur Your wrath.

3. The spirit of wickedness, godlessness, and immortality, be consumed in our land, in Jesus’ name, and Lord, let the passion for God dominate our hearts.
