CELEBRATING THE MINOR

Read: 2 Kings 5:20-27

2 Kings 5:20-27 But Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, Behold, my master spared this Naaman the Syrian, in not receiving from his hands what he brought. But as the Lord lives, I will run after him and get something from him.

So Gehazi followed after Naaman. When Naaman saw one running after him, he lighted down from the chariot to meet him and said, Is all well?

And he said, All is well. My master has sent me to say, There have just come to me from the hill country of Ephraim two young men of the sons of the prophets. I pray you, give them a talent of silver and two changes of garments.

And Naaman said, Be pleased to take two talents. And he urged him, and bound two talents of silver in two bags with two changes of garments and laid them upon two of his servants, and they bore them before Gehazi.

When he came to the hill, he took them from their hands and put them in the house; and he sent the men away, and they left.

He went in and stood before his master. Elisha said, Where have you been, Gehazi? He said, Your servant went nowhere.

Elisha said to him, Did not my spirit go with you when the man turned from his chariot to meet you? Was it a time to accept money, garments, olive orchards, vineyards, sheep, oxen, menservants, and maidservants?

Therefore the leprosy of Naaman shall cleave to you and to your offspring forever. And Gehazi went from his presence a leper as white as snow.

MEMORISE:

There is need of only one or but a few things. Mary has chosen the good portion [that which is to her advantage], which shall not be taken away from her. (Luke 10:42)

EXPOSITION

Minor is unimportant, inferior in importance, size or degree. It requires little, or no attention. Achieving it is of no consequence or value. Unfortunately today, men waste their energy, time and other resources pursuing the minor.

An examiner once gave some students examination. In the question one of the examination carries 60 marks while the remaining other four carries 10 marks each. It is disheartening to note that most of the students left question one unanswered and spent their time answering the remaining four questions. Even if they get the full mark alloted to the four questions, they will still fail the examination. Are you not one of those who have abandoned the major and struggling with minor?

Gahazi abandoned his priesthood to pursue mere gifts from Naman. Samson set aside the glorious assignment of liberating his countrymen from the oppressions of enemy and vigorously pursued the forbidden Delilah. What is your pursuit?

The major is whatever that makes us abide and grow in Christ (Matt.6v33). The things that promote His cause and those of His people. Christ says He came to seek and save the lost and that exactly preoccupied Him. Can it be said that this very thing you are doing is the major work assigned to you?

Whatever we do that prevented us from spending quality time with God is the minor. Christ wants our relationship and devotion than anything else. Create time for your Maker.

Most of our local churches today had abandoned the major of Christinity: evangelism, soul-touching, messages, brotherliness, soul-lifting fellowship and pure/unblemished ceremonies. Individually and corporately, we must go back to Bethel.

PRAYER POINTS

1. God open my eyes and heart to that which is important in my life-salvation soul, so that I will stop chasing the shadow.

2. Pray for those who are yet to come to the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ that God will touch them and quickly turn to Christ before it is too late.

3. Pray for utterances for the ministers of the gospel and that God will give power to His Word in their mouths so as to fulfil that which He has sent it.
