Bible Text: Psalm 23:1-6
Memory Verse: “Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.” Psalm 23:6, NIV
Nothing man-made is designed to last forever. If you bought a smart phone last year, it is already an old phone now. If you bought a dress last year, its value would have changed by now. If you built a beautiful house five years ago, it would be an old house now. Everything man-made requires maintenance otherwise it will wear off.
On the contrary, the Psalmist testifies that the goodness of God doesn’t expire in the life of a faithful believer. In so many ways the Psalmist enjoyed the goodness of God and found that it is inexhaustible. The green pastures, the cool still water, the constant restoration, the anointing, the favour shown him in the midst of enemies: all of these are the contents of God’s goodness towards him. And he declared that it will follow him always.
Sometimes life may be unfair; life situations may be unpleasant. In that kind of time, God’s goodness and mercy ought to be your anchor because it can never fail those who wait on Him. You can consciously unlock the goodness of God by meditating on His Word and obeying His commandments. Always know that God is your shepherd who can never go on retirement.
Insight: Times and seasons don’t change God, but obedience and trust do position you for His unfailing goodness.
Prayer: My heavenly Father, help me never to look away from any of your promises in Jesus name!
