YOU CANNOT STOP GOD

Bible Text: Acts 5:34-42
Memory Verse: “…Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.” Acts 5:38-39, NIV
From AD 303, the Roman Emperor Diocletian issued harsh royal laws everywhere, commanding the demolition of churches and burning of Bibles. He threatened to kill anyone who fails to surrender his/her Scripture for burning. Two years after this decree, Diocletian boasted, “I have completely exterminated the Christian writings from the face of the earth!” But has the gospel been wholly exterminated? Not at all!
The Jewish council decided to punish the apostles and attempted to kill them for preaching the gospel. Gamaliel, a highly respected teacher of the law warned them against it. Gamaliel explained that if the gospel is a man-centered business, it will fail, but if God originates it, those who oppose it become God-fighters, and God-fighters are God’s enemies. His words made a turn of events that spared the apostles’ lives. The apostles rejoiced in suffering as a hallmark of following Christ under persecution.
We are assured that nobody can fight against God to stop the spread of His Word. God’s Word lives on forever because the author is God Himself. Beloved, you can trust the infallibility and indestructibility of the Bible as God’s Word. Why? Because it has survived all violent human attacks and intellectual assaults.
Insight: The indestructibility of God’s Word is affirmed all through the Scriptures.
Prayer: LORD, help me not to oppose You but to fight well on Your side.
